***I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion***My Wolf's Bane by Veronica Blade was a good read. I really enjoyed the the premise of the book about going from enemies to being in a relationship and the forbidden relationship aspect. Even if these are not exactly new concepts.I loved how protective Zack was and I liked Autumn despite thinking she was a little shallow at times. However, I don't think the book was as good as I was hoping for. The connection and romance between Zack and Autumn could have been a little bit more fleshed out. Especially since it was supposed to be the focus of the story. I'm reading the next one though. The book left me wanting more. It should be a big red flashing warning light when a book comes with a warning "This is a romance book, everything else is secondary". It's like saying 'this book is one-dimensional and vacuous'. Okay, so genres are helpful when classifying books, but for a story to be so narrow that the publishers have to shout about it, doesn't seem like a good start.I would say this is a book for Twilight fans. It has that kind of feel to it. And I don't mean that as a negative. I'm rather partial to the Twilight books myself, and I don't mind admitting it. They have their place in the YA fiction world. But because this is a 'romance book first and foremost' we have to put up with some shoddy world-building and mythology behind the werewolf and shifter elements of this story. If only Blade had taken a bit more time to develop her world, rather than just concentrating on the interminable to-and-fro between Zack and the female MC (I finished the book half an hour ago and I've already forgotten her name, which says something), we'd have a much more solid read. One other reviewer said 'it's not BAD, but it's not GOOD' which I agree with completely. It was easy to read, but not addictive. A time filler, but not much more than that for me.
