Männer Wachsen Nicht Auf Bäumen (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I did really enjoy this book... but when I put it down it was one of those things where I thought "what actually happened?". The big moments of the book weren't as thrilling or devastating as they should've been and felt a bit flat. The end felt a bit TOO much 'happily ever after'. Overall, I really like Costello's way of writing, and will definitely be reading more of her work. I just thought the end of TheWish List was a bit hastily written, like she was trying to meet a deadline. Emma Reiss is turning thirty in half a year, yet she feels as though she hasn't reached her full potential when she finds an old wish-list written by her friends and herself many years ago. Components of the list include skydiving and sleeping under the stars as well as the more permanent, 'find the man I'm going to marry'. 'The Wish-List' focuses on Emma's mad rush to complete (or almost complete) the list before she turns thirty. Hilarity ensues. I enjoyed this book; it was a light, easy read- perfect for reading before bed or when you have a free moment. Emma Reiss was a likeable, even relatable character, which always helps to grip the reader of a chick-lit. Costello was able to add more serious minor story lines to Emma's main journey for both her friends and for Emma herself (though Emma's troubles were more prominent in her backstory).I wouldn't call this story unputdownable purely because it is a chick-lit, and I never really find myself gripped by a chick-lit, so perhaps that is why my rating isn't as high as most others. I found that the more comedic scenes in this story were written better than dramatic or sad scenes, which I think is common in chick-lits so there was no surprise there. The book made me laugh on several occasions, and was a real feel-good story, ideal if you're stressed out and need to relax with a good book.Overall, I did enjoy 'The Wish-List' and it kept me turning pages more than most chick-lits do. Jane Costello wrote these characters well, allowing most of them a backstory which helped us to feel for them more in bad situations. I would recommend this book to anyone in need of a light read, although I think it is more suited to older readers. 3/5
