Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine To The World Of Food And The People Who Cook (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

This book is just about his opinions on the food scene rather than food being mixed in with travel and slices of life.I just find it kind of weird that he would write this book for such a narrow audience after building up a huge "non foodie" following throughout the years. I find it even weirder that he intended to write Kitchen Confidential for a narrow audience and so many people not involved with the food scene loved it. If he wrote this book first instead of Kitchen Confidential he would still be an obscure NYC chef. Anthony Bourdain's latest attempt at writing is rather disappointing. Much of the book seems to be written like a child trying to fill an essay with the required 2000 words. I enjoyed Kitchen Confidential and Mr. Bourdain has found his nitch in his many travel/food shows (by the way I love his shows and never miss an episode). But here chapter after chapter, he bellows and rants about anything and everything and becomes the sterotypical "angry old white man". From an old girlfriend, hamburgers, McDonalds, Alice Waters, circuses, vegetarians and even a chapter of Anthony's "heroes and villans", he rants endlessly. Towards the end he freely admits he is angry but his attempt to rationalize and explain it only results in more complaining. Pass on this book, you won't miss anything.

What do You think about Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine To The World Of Food And The People Who Cook (2010)?

I'm a fan of just about anything Bourdain does. this book is no exception.

Lots of good essays here––yes, food-centric.
