Mannies Incorporated (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Ah, I so needed something reliably angst-free and sweet. This certainly fit the bill. Adorable, happy, stress-free sweetness.Sure, Drake was rather prickly for the longest while – but this makes sense in context of his background. On the whole this was just cute and comforting times ten.Awkward name mix-up in the epilogue. I sat and wondered, “Trevor? Who’s Trevor?” I will go out on a limb and assume that should be Travis? This wasn’t the only editing miss but the only one that really gave me pause.Aside from that, well, I never like it when lovers use “baby” as an endearment (in a story). But in a household where one of the kids is referred to as baby regularly and all the kids’ dolls are called baby too? It’s just wrong. But that’s peanuts.Happy, nice feeling.I’m glad there’s a second volume with, unless I am much mistaken, new protagonists? 3.5 starsReview added - this was quite a sweet read and I did enjoy it overall, but I found myself losing interest a bit after the halfway mark. I love romance, but I am definitely the kind of person that needs a strong storyline to go along with it about something other than just the H/H or H/H’s relationship. I am also not a big fan of stories that really pretty much focus only on the main characters never having interactions outside of one location - in this instance, we never really saw Slayde and Drake interact anywhere apart from at the house. I also found I wasn't convinced about why they loved each other, or maybe more specifically why Slayde loved Drake…? It was always about sex and they didn't really talk about anything to do with them, it was always just stuff about the kids and Mindy. So you don’t get a real understanding of who they are, just superficial detail. I liked them both well enough, I just didn't love them and I think probably in a short while not much from this story is going to stick in my mind. For the length of the book and the fact that I found it dragged a bit/was repetitive in places, more of that word count could have been used to give us a deeper understanding of the characters and their relationship. The book was generally well-written BUT, I found some really annoying typos. There were a couple of general typos which I was able to ignore without really registering, but there were two major ones where I realised the main characters’ names had been written wrong. For instance Drake is called something else, I can’t remember what now, but it was obvious the author was referring to Drake. Then later Travis, one of Slayde’s best friends, is called Trevor! So this was really annoying as it takes you a second to think “what? wait…? who’s trevor? ...oh no ok they mean Travis”... by which point you have come out the story and have to get back in again. It was a strongly hinted at HEA at the end, with enough information that you know what they are all going to do next and there is a plan that you can then imagine in your mind, but the book itself ends on a HFN. I don’t know if the next in the series perhaps carries on this storyline…but I won't read it immediately. This is one of those stories that's nice enough to read in between other more intense stuff.

What do You think about Mannies Incorporated (2012)?

That was cute. And for once, the MC didn't jump in bed after 5 min of knowing each other.
