Lord Wildfire (1984) - Plot & Excerpts

This is another of Claudy Conn's Historical Romances (which I had stopped reading until I started reading Claudy's HR books), with her amazing writing style, grabs you in from the first page until the last. In fact, you'll hate for the story to end! This story is about Lady Barbara (Babs to family and friends) Waverly who happens to be a curious, intriguing minx. Her worst offense now is that wrote wrote a book "Passion's Seed" which happens to be about the haute ton. Everyone is raving about it and wonders who wrote it. She wants to use the money to help her father to pay off some gambling debts which he has accrued since the death of his wife. Babs is going on to her third season in London and her Aunt Jane and cousin Corrine are asked to come to help curb Babs. Then we have our hero, Nicholas (Nick), the 9th Duke of Barrington also known as Lord Wildfire for his actions on the battlefield and because of his ladies! He claims he doesn't want to get married. However, he meets Babs and would love to have her but his conscience knows he can't do anything to an innocent (although Babs doesn't think that way) so he just dallies with her. So the chase is on and can you imagine who is going to win? Then we have our villian, Sir Edward Denton, who is a very rich man of the ton. He decides he wants to marry Babs even though she doesn't want to marry him. He'll do anything to get her and he hatches a plan to do so. You'll have to read the book to find out what the outcome is! We have so many interesting characters in this story and I just adored Count Otto, who is Babs stalwart friend and protector. This story has has lucious love scenes, intrigue, kidnapping and loads of fun. You'll so love this book just as I did. For 18yrs and over. First off I have to say that I LOVED the Author's note! It was really great!Another fantastic love tale by Claudy Conn. I enjoyed this regency romance. This book was filled with details and events that often go on in society during those times. They are intriguing and I love how Claudy writes about them. She adds the special twist to them making it so much better. Her characters are always realistic and they always standout. The secondary characters always shine as well. In this book there was a lot going on but I found it very easy to follow along. A lot of relationships and events happening but it all flowed perfectly together easily capturing your attention to the very end. I loved Babs character. She shined brightly through the whole book. She was sassy and her antics were too funny. Nick was just the man she needed. This book was filled with mystery, suspense, action, emotion and oh so much passion. Everything you could possibly want. A must read!
