Lo Scandalo Dell'anno (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

Lady Yardley, Julia, is desperate for a divorce from an abusive husband and uses Aidan, Duke of Trathern, to get it. She is a wild woman of her time who smokes and drives her car too fast. He is an uptight Duke with two failed engagements on the market for a wife. They've known each other for years and have always shared an attraction. I have to give it props that this is the first time I've read of a roofied sexual encounter (she puts the drugs in his drink after he says no) used as a plot device in a historical romance. And what's a little secret dose of laudanum in some coffee between friends? To her credit, they don't actually have sex, but if he is sure they did, violating his sense of honor in the process, is that really better? This is the second book in the trouble at the altar series by Guhrke. Generally, I liked it better than the first one. Yet, I can't get past the way Julia used Aidan to get out of her marriage. Guhrke makes me understand Julia's desperation, but she can't make me see the building love between the two as anything but wrong. SUMMARY: The year is 1903 and Lady Julia Yardley has just been grated a divorce after she was caught in a compromising situation with Aidan Carr, the Duke of Trathen. So Julia is finally free from Yardley and so romance of her life begins.Aidan Carr should be looking for a wife but strangely he cannot take his mind of that seducing woman and the night they shared, though he does not remember quite a lot of it. READER'S OPPINION:Aidan is perfect. Of that have no doubt. He is gentle yet fierce at some points, smart yet with the slightness touch of stupidity when it comes to Julia, stubborn yet surprisingly patient with the one his wants.( I can go like this forever)Julia pissed me off. I am sorry, but it is fact. I understand her fear of commitment. I am a bit like that too. There is something oddly paniking of the tought of giving up ones freedom to someone, it is like you are giving up your will and life. But it was so obvious that Aidan was not like that. The only thing he had ever wanted was to love her. Doesn't love overcompensate for the marriage thing? I know in my eyes it does!MY RATING: I liked this book, but I did not absolutely love it, so I am giving Scandal of the Year 3 stars and I am looking forward to the next book from Laura Lee Guhrke.

What do You think about Lo Scandalo Dell'anno (2014)?

Set in the early 1900's. Enjoyed the dialogue and the characters. Different from the normal HR.

Well, it was better than the last Loretta Chase novel, anyway.
