L'inverno Del Mondo (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

With so many people writing a review I feel like it has all been said and done. I will say that I was disappointed with this book compared to the first book in the trilogy. The dialogue at times seemed stiff and unconvincing. That said, I usually love Follett's books and I applaud him for attempting a trilogy that stretches throughout a long and complicated century. Once again I wish Goodreads had 1/2 stars because this probably rates 3.5 stars.* I won this book through the Goodreads Giveaway program. Thanks Goodreads and Penguin Books!* Love these types of books. It did at one stage feel like the author was trying to fit a square peg into a round hole - in other words history needed to accommodate his story line, and towards the end felt a little contrived. But that being said - still really enjoyed it. It felt like a fair representation of the period, although history is always written by the victors and some of the comments around Nagasaki and Hiroshima irked me no end. For instance saying that dropping the bombs bought a swift end to the war and saved American lives, is a rubbish justification for what can easily be construed as a war crime. I am no expert on the subject - but certainly felt that in a novel that charged the Nazi and Communist propaganda so vitriolically, needed to be a little more balanced about America's involvement.Still loved the story - it had all those good things that make a good story. Character development, drama, action, love and some well written prose.

What do You think about L'inverno Del Mondo (2012)?

Hoping for a better closing book to the series. Missed opportunity with many aspects of WWII.

History is good in this book, cheesy sex scenes lessen the impact of the century trilogy.
