Jake Ransom And The Skull King's Shadow (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

The idea for this book was fantastic. It's just that the way the author wrote the book bothers me. Like it was seriously annoying me that and the end of every chapter he would write something that is (pathetically) suspenseful, no matter how much it didn't fit. Jake would be having a good time with his friends near the end of the chapter, and then, as the chapter ends, he suddenly remembers the voice of the someone saying "come to me..." or "he's coming." I think that Rollins also made Jake Ransom slightly too perfect, so that he was rather difficult to relate to. I mean, how many young geniuses are there who basically know everything and are masters at Tae Kwon Do? And the really obvious and frequent foreshadowing gets old really fast. Those are the main reasons why I gave this book 3 stars (I probably would have given it 5 stars otherwise). I think this book was awesome.Jake Ransom and his sister Kady are in a museum on the day of the eclispe when they are thrown into a dangerous world where dinosaurs roam the lands and an evil king is hiding out, planning to make people's lives miserable. Jake and Kady are taken into the village of Calypsos, where they will have to make tough decisions and find a way to get home. But they know nothing about the land or where exactly they are. Will they be able to get home at all? I really love the authors style. The characters are well developed and the setting is mysterious but awesome.I couldn't put this book down.
