Hemovore (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

This was a very good and satisfying read. It was original, unique from the rest of the vampire/gay romance explosion. For the most part, I didn't know exactly what would happen next, and guessing helped me enjoy the book more and more the further I delved into it. It has a strong plot, fleshed-out characters, and a cool alternative explanation to vampirism. I liked the claustrophobic, protected feel of the whole story, as well. The characters were mostly enclosed in an apartment, car, or some other small space, and the fact that vampirism comes from a virus in this story had people wearing gloves and masks, and being more isolated in public than in private. That lent a more reserved tone to the book, especially at the beginning, which extended to Mark and Jonathan's physical and emotional distance with each other. I also appreciated their long history as foundation for their love (happily, no insta-love here).I read this almost straight through, because although sometimes I felt that the ratio of dialogue to description was wanting, it was fast paced and interesting enough to keep me in the story. The writing was very well done and grammatically sound (thank you--Price seems to be one of the few authors who seriously know her stuff!) and it just made the book flow nicely. I would have liked a little more specific time frames, for example, how far in the future the ending takes place, but that is a small complaint. Overall, it is an entertaining (oh, and hilarious because of Mark's snarky wit) read that I highly recommend. Five stars, it's worth it. I really enjoyed this book! Which is funny because it took forever to get to the drama, trauma, and angst, but it was very enjoyable regardless. Let me just put it this way, I actually started reading this book last night at 11 PM-ish with the intention of reading for half an hour to 45 minutes, but for sure. Being in bed by midnight. I did not tear myself away from the book until 2:30 AM. Enough said. :-)

What do You think about Hemovore (2009)?

I loved this take on how vampires came to be, and how the virus spreads. Good characters too.
