Gone Country (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Another wonderful glimpse into the lives of the extended McKay family!!! It's been awhile since I've had any contact & this book sure didn't disappoint. While I really loved Gavin & Ree's story, I was enthralled with Sierra & Boone's story. Super happy to find out they'll be getting a book of their own, can't wait for that one. Sad that this series is coming to an end, but I understand- it's been a long storyline! One of the things that I have loved about these books is that they reflect every day life in a ranching community. There isn't any great mystery just how a family lives and works in small town Wyoming. The best thing is that the stories are so well written that they don't drag. I haven't lost interest in overall story or in any of the individual stories. This book was the same. I was glad to get Gavin's story. Gavin Daniels has tugged at my heart through several books and I have wondered if he would ever come to terms with his birth family. I could feel his need to find that connection but he has fought it. I was glad that he found a reason to move to Wyoming and find a slower way of life. So many of us will never be able to experience the slower pace of small town living. There isn't much in the way of employment in most small towns so those that can't work from home or start their own small business would have a hard time in such a place. So it is nice that few a few short hours I could relive that experience. I was uncertain in the beginning what I was going to think of Gavin but he came through in the end. He does have an alpha male side that is very yummy. I laughed at the scene where Gavin is asking Ben advice on sex. I think it is funny that so many of the McKays go to Ben when they need advice on sexual relationships. I was also very glad that he found someone that could understand him and lead in the right direction at times.Rielle Wetzler is a product of hippie parents. She was home schooled and live in an home where her parents participated in an open marriage. While there is nothing wrong with that it can be confusing for a child. Rielle also learned how to live off the gird. Her parents raised their own food and made their clothes for fibers that raised or harvested and spun into cloth. As with so many of the children that were raised this way Rielle rebel against this way of life. She has continued to making a living off of her gardens and yarns and bake goods but she lives in the world. She made her daughter go to public school. She made sure that daughter studied and received good grades so she could go to college. In doing so she has not had much time to have a life of her own. She has never had a steady boyfriend. It was good to see her with Gavin. The pair of them are fiesta and hot when they are together. They matched in skill as far as love making is concerned. Also in many ways they are matched on the problems they face in dealing with their children. We are introduced to Sierra and Aurora Rose "Rory" Wetzler in this story. These two seem to get along fairly well from the beginning. Their are a few scenes where they are at larger heads but they seem to work things out very quickly. I think that Sierra finds the older sibling that she has never had. In essence someone she can talk to about things none of us would want to tell our parents. Sierra also comes to like one of the West boys, his name is Boone. Boone is three years older than Sierra but there is real chemistry between them. They never get any farther than kissing in this story and the final scene between them is hard to read because it is so sad. That final scene also shows that Sierra needs to get over being spoiled and to grow up a lot more. I was glad to see that Ms. James is planning on writing a story for these two.I really loved this book. It is a wonderful love story as well as a story of reconciliation with the family. Gavin finally comes to terms with why Vi gave him up for adoption and starts to go to Vi for advice. We get to see more of the McKays from earlier stories which is always nice. Ms. James has brought so much life into these characters it is going to be hard to say good bye to them. There is two more stories after this one, Dalton's in Redneck Romeo and the story that will be written for Sierra. The story for Sierra will probably not come out until 2015 according to Ms. James' website. These are great stories and I highly recommend them.
