Girl Of Lies (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

FEIFEI'S REVIEW - Once upon a time in a faraway land, I was a law student. I loved congressional and Lincoln-Douglas debates and I craved politics. Though that’s far from who I am today, this story touched and awakened that part of me I thought was gone. Nothing impresses me more than a book combining both intellect and emotion, and that is exactly what this book has done. But first, have you read the other three Thompson Sisters books? No? If you want the best reading experience possible, I suggest you read those before starting this book. If you have read them, then I’m going to warn you that this book is different from the other three. Romance isn’t the fundamental element that drives the story. It’s the political intrigue, mystery, and action that steal the show. Andrea is the youngest of the Thompson sisters and the one we know least about. In this book, we find that she’s a strong, witty, and independent sixteen year old who has lived in Spain for most of her life. Why was she separated from her family and sent away? Don’t stress. All will be answered here. With Andrea’s homecoming and ‘Rachel’s Peril’ sparks a revolutionary sequence of events that unfold. Puzzle pieces all around the globe start to pop up and at times I wondered how the heck everything was related to each other. All these different people, near and far but intricately connected to the same case, slowly start to converge. I’d start to make connections and guess at who was who and if they were enemy or friend. But just when I thought I nailed the culprit...Nope. This story kept me on my toes from the very beginning to the very end. It ends on an expected cliffhanger so I’m not too worried about that part. Many questions are answered here but a lot of problems remain unsolved. One thing’s for certain: I am very interested in the direction Charles will take this story in. There are literally so many paths the next book could go in. 5 stars! Smart. Sexy. Intriguing. Edgy. A pulse-pounding, thrilling, suspenseful, and action-packed first installment in this spin-off series.ARC kindly provided by author in exchange for an honest review. I should be irked with Sheehan-Miles for jumping genres on me, but Girl of Lies was too intriguing to quibble over the dearth of romance. Also, if it were any other author, I'd be majorly POed with the cliff-hanger ending, but he's such a consummate story-teller, I forgive him even that. The cover, however, I hate.Girl of Lies delves into the CIA undercurrent beneath the Thompson sisters' upbringing they never knew about. There are plenty of guns, bad guys, lawmen of every ilk. Hey, and I still liked it. The book was good enough to goad cheapo-me into paying full price for the next installment, Girl of Rage. 4.3 Stars
