Geek Girl - Matalalentoa Mallitaivaalla (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

cute, fast read. Not a huge fan of the whole geek girl thing like it's a disadvantage, and the plot was a little ridiculous, but the characters (especially her dad and step mum) were really well done and funny. I liked the way Harriet's dad responded to Wilbur calling him a cutey in a positive way, and when Nick is threatened with having to wear a dress in the next show, his response is to request it has sequins on it. Geek GirlHolly Smale4\5Geek Girl is a funny, cute, slightly crazy and readable chick-lit adventure, best compared to Anna and the French kiss. I put off reading Geek Girl for quite a while, but ended up really enjoying it.It had a lot of humour, quirk, and some very interesting facts mentioned by Geek Girl herself. Here are some favourite parts of mine- The second meeting of Harriet and Nick."Umm," I say into my palms, thinking as quickly as I can. "Hyperventilating" doesn't sound very good, so I finish (my sentence) with: "(I'm) Sniffing my hands."Which, in hindsight, sounds even worse. "Not because I have smelly hands," I add urgently. "Because I don't." (...)"And how are they?""A bit salty," I answer honestly. Then I nervously blurt out, "Do you want to smell them?"(...)"I'm trying to cut back", he says, lifting an eyebrow. "But thanks anyway.""You're welcome."Wilbur and his.... Wilbur-ness. 1- "Gooooood Moooorrrnniiinng," he squeals, clasping his hands together. "And if it isn't Mr and Mrs Baby-baby panda! Just there right in front of me, like two little matching pots of strawberry fromage frais! Ooh, I could just eat you both up. But I won't because that would be terribly antisocial."2- "Your daughter is adorable. I've never seen such an alien duck in my entire life.""A what?""Frankie here looks just like the ginger child of an alien and duck union, and that is just so fresh right now.""Her name is not Frankie," Annabel hisses in barely contained frustration. "It's Harriet."Of course Toby and his.... stalkerish-ness."Please, Nat? Twenty minutes, and if you still hate me then you can spend the rest of the night cutting my face out of all your photos.""How do you know I haven't already done that?"(...) Toby clears his throat. "If you need somewhere to put all the cut-out Harriet heads," he interjects, "I'd be happy to take them off your hands."We both turn to stare at him.I really recommend Geek Girl, for its humour, characters, and for Harriet's awkwardness that we can all relate to. (Well. Some of us might never be models. But. Ahem.)I know this is a teeny review, and I feel bad about it, but though the book is pretty long (378 pages)It in no way "touched" me or had much else to... talk about. It's really more of a light comedy, and most characters and events have no real depth. OVERALL- A CUTE AND FUNNY COMEDY, AND I WILL READ THE SECOND BOOK.

What do You think about Geek Girl - Matalalentoa Mallitaivaalla (2013)?

Usually, I avoid writing reviews as much as I can. But I have to warn others about this meaningless whining thing. When I started this book,I was hoping for something light ,something funny .All I get is some idiotic girl whining about EVERYTHING! There is no plot,no sense,no character development....I have got no idea what alternate universe author belongs to,but no normal person starts spitting random facts and thinks he or she is making a good conversation!!! I normally have hard time putting book down, even if it's boring, but this book ... I will just say it changed my old habit

I absolutely loved this book when I read it. I was in London when I stumbled upon a bookshop. I originally was just thinking about buying The Fault In Our Stars by John Green, but I ended up buying this one as well because it was really cheap. Turns out I read it in an afternoon. It was so funny, it got me laughing throughout it all! Maybe the only thing I didn't like about this book was that the chapters were pretty short, but it doesn't matter. It was really good and I would recommend it to anyone.
