Fractured Lines (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

2.5-3 starsOh man...I guess I was expecting a little more from this book.I wanted Carrie to have more of a tough love / backbone approach with Finn's issues. Her being a therapist herself... And being in the condition she was in.... She was just not doing it for me. She needed to insist right from the start & put down the ultimatum and a time frame... For Finn to get help... If he wanted to stay with her and his daughter. It was just so crazy!!And I'm sorry... I wasn't feeling the whole BDSM scene in the cabin. They were never like that in the other books... It just seemed out of place... Considering where they were emotionally...in there relationship! Maybe I would have been ok with it if they were in a good place in their marriage.. Being married for 8yrs.. Spicing things up... I would have been all for it. But, they weren't... I think that's where the problem lies for me.And I wasn't feeling the whole threat plot on Carrie. That whole story line just seemed out of place...I wish this book had just been about Finn's problem & fixing their marriage.Once the dr told Finn about Carrie in the hospital... I was done...Totally unnecessary this whole book. This book just ruined it for me. I loved these characters. Flaws and all.. But this book...Idk...Just pissed me off. I should have never read this book at all. It was all unnecessary drama.Should have just been about marital issues not all the drama that went on.Ughhh... I'm so pissed...The ending of this book... Was just to cute. For all the drama that went on... I just felt it was all to fast towards the end. I was absolutely thrilled when I heard that Jen McLaughlin would be bringing back Carrie and Finn, all grown up! With the instability of young love behind them, I was certain that years passed would provide us with a very different look at this couple. As they’ve grown up, Finn and Carrie have only gotten steamier together. Jen had Carrie hot and bothered with just a single look from Finn and I can’t deny that I was feeling the heat myself. These two fight hard and love harder and I am pretty much addicted to their dynamic. Carrie shows a substantial amount of character growth in this novel. The young girl we first met has been replaced with a confident, protective and fierce woman who is unquestionably loyal and practically explodes with love for her family. At first I thought the Finn we were seeing was irrevocably broken, but as the story unfolded, I realized just how strong and stubborn a man he was proving to be. He still knows how to make me sigh. The ride this book took me on still has my stomach in knots. I was nervous, worried, and completely consumed by everything that threatened to stand in the way of Carrie and Finn’s happily ever after. From the word go, Jen doesn’t mess around. She jumps right into the meat of this story with Finn’s residual struggle with PTSD and the effect it has on his family. While deeply saddened by the situation Carrie and Finn found themselves in, I have to give Jen McLaughlin credit for keeping this story raw and honest. The things Carrie and Finn battle in this book are overwhelming, but completely genuine. Jen McLaughlin made sure Fractured Lines would continue to serve as evidence of their trials, defeats and triumphs. I can’t wait to see what Jen has in store next for this series!
