Fire Mage (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Meh .... It was entertaining and I enjoyed the story line but....it seems to be a bit forced almost like the reader is getting a feel for the action and then poof it is gone. I feel like the author does not know his characters completely yet and I get the feeling that he is looking over their shoulders and just recording the events. There are little bits in which the reader sees into the MC mind but I do feel that he needs to kow more about them other than the basic outside picture that he is showing . The ending BAD BAD BAD !!! It needs a clear resolution other than the author telling us what is going to happen, and introducing new characters.... I would have liked more about the slavers and the first mate othere than group getting stuffed into a hold . As for the sisters how conviently they were dropped off ... I felt they were used simply as filler. Over all the story is good but I think that a few more rewrites and better character development will improve the story as a whole. Not without it's charms, Fire Mage is still somewhat disappointing. The action sequences are lackluster most of the time and seem to have no other purpose then to distract from the lack of an actual plot. Tit is fast paced but without any story goal to speak of beyond getting to some island because a dead guy told them too, this is far from a good thing. I honestly would have more then likely given it 2 stars if not for one fact, the book was free. I know this probably shouldn't matter but at the end of the day an afternoon's mild amusement for free is worth at least 3 stars.Note, i will eventually read book 2 because I got it for the same price. But unless Sun Mage is markedly better i doubt i will spend the 2.99 for book 3, shadow Mage.

What do You think about Fire Mage (2011)?

I thought it was a good book to read!!! It was by John Forrester and it had about 200 pages.
