El Pianista (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

After having read the first two books in this series, I had a hard time getting through this one and didn't even finish it. the previous two books were enjoyable, but this one followed such a similar track that I completely lost interest. I became frustrated with the characters as things didn't move quite as swiftly as I wished. furthermore, I gave this author one more shot by starting a different series and felt the same way. Uninterested. Didn't fall in love with No. 3 of the Duke's Obsession series, much as I loved No. 2. Even though I'd been looking forward to Val's HEA after glimpses of him in the previous books. Ms. Burrowes appears to follow the same plot line - deeply angsty hero, gutsy heroine making her own way in the world hiding a deep dark secret, instant attraction turning to love thanks to being thrown into close and continued proximity, heroine scared of repercussions of her secret on her new found love so moving away, hero to the rescue and HEA. All done with a deft touch, a lovely voice, intense emotions. Wish the author does more research on the era and brings in accuracy in reflecting social norms and consequences of breaking them. There's a large cast of secondary characters, which made me wonder whether there was a backlist - but, alas, no, they're introduced to keep the story going and us intrigued about them. I'll continue reading Ms. Burrowes because, despite some disappointment she still keeps me engaged with her writing.
