El Año Que Nos Amamos Peligrosamente (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
So, this book starts out with Lily as a young girl living with her aunt. She witnesses something that results in the hanging of a man. Then her aunt sends her to live with another aunt in Ireland.Years go by and Lily gets a letter telling her that she is the new Countess of Ashwood. Now, Lily doesn't exactly want to return to Ashwood, so she asks her cousin, Keira to go in her place for a while, until Lily is done traveling Italy for a bit. Cause you know, priorities.So Keira goes along with this plan, but she is sort of forced in pretending that she is actually Lily. Now, Keira did this for the actual right reasons. She needed to help people and to do that she needed to be countess. But, she had to know this wasn't going to work out for her. And to add to her problems, in walks Declan O' Connor (I love the name Declan by the way). Now, Declan knows Keira. They've known each other for years and had a falling out (of course). Declan promises not to tell anyone Keira's secret and help her deal with everything.Of course Declan and Keira fall in love. And do it. And then Lily shows up.I enjoyed this book, even though I rolled my eyes a few times. And there was a slight plot twist at the end that I guessed at pretty early on. But a good book. Okay so generally this book was quite an easy and enjoyable read, but I had difficulties with the characters because they simply weren't complex enough. Keira and Declan as individual characters seemed a little too perfect (really? Keira's "flaw" is that she is a bit more daring due to her Irish blood?). And does Declan have any flaw at all, except for the fact that he doesn't want to be "tied down"? Grrrr I hate it when marriage is written as the best thing that could even happen to a woman and the worst thing that could ever happen to a man.It's really interesting that although I wasn't attached to Keira or Declan as individual characters, their interactions and relationship was written well enough to keep me entertained, and I particuarly enjoyed their moments of snarkiness and banter (that was the best part of the book actually). There were hints of sexual tension but this book isn't really a passion-filled story but I didn't mind the moments of Keira and Declan as friends. So on to the mystery. It's not exactly an Agatha Christie but it did provide enough fuel to drive the story (and Keira and Declan's relationship) along. I really liked the little plot twist of the dangerous stranger - it might be enough for me to want to read the next book (which by the way continues the story as the mystery doesn't exactly get solved at the end).

I usualy like books by Julia London but this one just didn't grab me.
