Wow, this book is not how I remembered it... I've read this book once before when I was younger and thought it was marvelous! The girl dressed up as a guy to be educated, yayy!! But now I know how very droll this book is. It's a girl author attempting to write about guys. Sometimes, the book is good, other times the characters are romanticized versions of how guys act, according to girls. This book is the latter of the two situations. The guys in this book are quite feminine, and drab. And historical wise? The reactions are not accurate. The idea of a girl masquerading as a guy would be very scandalous indeed, and I do not believe the author covered that well. Oh well. On to the next read!! A Regency/Victorian era (not fully certain) story in the vein of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. My guess is that it's Victorian because within that period the idea of women attending studies began to be discussed and tried (examples such as Hughes Hall in 1885, founded by an Elizabeth Phillips Hughes). Both Elizabeth and Will aspire to to seek out their dreams despite the odds, and learn that with the good come also the bad to succeed in it. I feel both grew from their experiences to understand their worlds better, particularly Bet (as Will's time is lightly discussed more at the end).
