Duas Irmãs, Um Duque (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I have always loved fairy tales but I thought James really pushed to make this a princess and the pea story. I loved that the character thought she was "fat" and didn't appreciate her voluptuous curves until she met a duke who might marry her sister. Olivia has been groomed since birth to be the wife of a duke. She is betrothed to Rupert a sweet, poetry loving young man who was deprived of oxygen at birth. He loves dogs, feelings and cares for Olivia but wants to make join the army. His father ensures he will be safe and sends Olivia and her thin twin sister Georgie with new clothes to meet friends of his. Olivia meets the duke they intend for her sister and sparks fly. I guess other readers were not happy about Rupert and comments that were made about him, but Olivia is respectful of Rupert and cares for him as a friends. James says in the afterward that Forest Gump is Rupert's middle name. We all know how beloved that character was. Georgie loves math and education and has felt deprived because society and her parents denied her the opportunity to attend university. She likes conversing with Quin but feels no spark. Quin lost his cheating wife, his son and his ability to have fun and love with their deaths until he met Olivia. Despite being practically perfect for a duke she is sometimes naughty, charismatic and limerick loving. I thought the ending was contrived but the love Rupert had for Lucy felt true. After reading a bad review of this book, I was definitely having a hard time getting into. But it did catch me about halfway through and suck me in. I found this book very enjoyable! I did not like how Olivia and everyone made fun of Rupert but Olivia did change her tune and prove to be a very loyal friend to him. I love how perfect Quin and Olivia were for each other even though neither was the definition of perfect during that time! Very good book :)
