Dreamer's Pool (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

You know how when you get into a reading slump and even though the books are decent, you kinda hate everything for not being totally PERFECT? That's how I've been this last month. I've read some decent stuff but nothing that made me cling to my kindle and want to stay up all night reading. Happily, my streak is now broken! I stayed up until 2 am last night to finish this AND REGRET NOTHING.So I didn't want to read this one originally, because I love the Sevenwaters books. They're so utterly romantic. This one? Not a romance, and when I heard there was 3 POV, I was all "meeeeeh". But I read it anyhow and I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed the 'mystery' aspects and it had a terrific ending (though I'm still feeling sorry for the 'villain' and the ultimate fate. The romance subplot actually turned out perfect, and I ended up liking all 3 characters (and their POVs) a lot more than I thought I would! So thank you, Juliet Marillier, for busting me out of some serious reading slump, yo. I needed that. PS - not sure who is on the cover. It ain't Blackthorn. Flidais maybe? I can see why many people love Marillier's writing because her style feels very much like an old folk tale. However, I can never seem to finish on of her novels; they drag on with useless information that do not add to the plot or character development. In fact, her characters seem to lack any type of growth at all. Instead of adding depth to them, she keeps describing their few basic traits over an over again but with different phrases - Blackthorn likes to be left alone and gets crabby when bothered by people asking for help - we get it!

What do You think about Dreamer's Pool (2014)?

DNF at 30%... Couldn't connect to anyone. The writing was really good. Just didn't interest me.
