Dr. Dad (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Dad CHAPTER NINEIT WAS A PERFECT Saturday afternoon for a soccer game—warm but not hot, sunny and dry. Seated in the passenger seat next to her father, Lindsey decided she was looking forward to playing. The practices had been kind of boring this season, but she really thought she was going to enjoy herself today, even though soccer had stopped being fun for her after Cathy moved away. They’d always been on the same team, ever since they were seven and spent every game running up and down the field, giggling and chasing the ball like a couple of goofs.Cathy had played on Lindsey’s team last summer. But then she’d moved. Lindsey’s father couldn’t seem to understand why she’d lost her enthusiasm for the sport. It should have been obvious.Well, she wasn’t going to complain about her father. He’d been so nice lately, not arguing with her, not nagging her about her bedtime or going over her homework and pointing out every little punctuation error. It was like he’d decided to become cool, all of a sudden. He hadn’t even made a big fuss about sunscreen before they’d left the house.
