Das Flüstern Der Nacht (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

I liked this book better than the first. Perhaps because now that the author has established the world, he has been free to explore the backstory of one of the characters, the relationships between various people, and just write some cool scenes.Once again I will warn that there is a focus on reproduction in this culture (one of the races have many wives, common harems, other areas where rape occurs, but none of it in graphic detail). It is a fallen and imperfect world, but I really enjoyed the way the author has presented it and greatly look forward to the other books in the series. More of a 3.5.This was not nearly as good as the first one. I liked the exploration of the Krasian culture, and Jardir and Abban's past, but when it goes on for half a book, without any, or only brief, reference to any of the characters who appeared in the first book, it's a little hard to get into. You tend not to care so much, and just want the book to get on with it. Perhaps if things were switched up, some of the Jardir stuff in the first book instead of this one, it would have been easier to read.Same with the Renna plot.I liked that both Jardir and Renna converged with Leesha and Arlen respectively, but I felt that it took too long to get there.I still have an issue with Brett thinking that it's normal for a woman who was just raped to go and sleep with a man of her choice right afterwards, as though being raped isn't a hindrance to sexual appetite. I feel like at least Leesha or Renna would have gone through more strenuous post traumatic stress, because sexual assault is a traumatising experience. Brett tries, especially with Leesha, but it's never more than a passing reference to her thinking about it momentarily. I just think this whole aspect of the book could have been handled a lot better. The thing with the demons is fascinating. I wish there'd been more of it in this book, since this book didn't feel like it really went anywhere, especially in comparison with the first. In any case, I'm looking forward to more of the demons stuff in the third book. This was enjoyable, but not as much as the first.
