Cinta Terlarang - Waking Up With The Duke (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
I'm not sure why this book has received so many 5 star ratings. It was a lovely book, with an interesting and not your usual historical plot, but there was something missing. I definitely felt like I did not know the hero. I knew about him but I did not know him. There was no depth to him. I really didn't understand his reasoning behind wanting to give Jayne a child, to me the guilt was not reason enough. And then he was so fast to fall in love with her. Jayne was very mean to him and I didn't really see the lovable qualities the hero fell for. I also did not feel much chemistry between Ainsley and Jayne. I couldn't really understand why he loved her so much, he said loved her and there were times when he showed it, but there wasn't enough back story to make it believable. The ending was not great, the story line was very rushed and I found myself wanting the story to end as quickly as possible. The one good thing about this was unlike other historicals Ainsley and Jayne do not wait long for lovemaking to start, but starting the early lovemaking I believe is what caused the characters to not be developed too much. I felt like both lead characters were shallow and could've used a bit more depth. Overall, it's not a bad book, it's definitely worth reading, but it's forgettable and at times it was a chore to read. There are no memorable scenes or quotes or even laughter (Except the encounter with Leo and Ainsley in the hallway). 3.2 stars. This is a story about infidelity and the third book in the series. Each one can be read as a stand alone but it is nice to peer into the happily ever after of the other brothers in the series.The heroine (Jane) wants children but her husband was paralized in an accident and can't perform. So her husband asks his best friend (the hero, an unmarried duke) to give his wife a child. The hero agrees for two reasons - the guilt he feels for contributing to his friend's accident and because of his unspoken feelings for Jane.I have a problem with stories about infidelity. I understand her desire to do what she must to have the child she longed for (I adopted my children when I couldn't make my own). But infidelity of the hero or heroine is a tough crime to swallow in a romance novel.This story illustrates the problems of guilt, betrayal, broken vows, paternaty issues, etc, that come from the betrayla of sacred vows.Spoilers follow:The heroine's husband dies while she is with child. According to law, the child belongs to her husband at the time of conception. And yet, fo this couple to have a happily ever after, the hero marries the heroine before the child is born and claims the boy as his heir.I'm not certain of the legallity of the hero's claim, which made the ending difficult to swallow.

Really enjoyed the Series. The best was last. Will be reading more from this author.
