Christmas At Copper Mountain (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Harley took a temporary housekeeper/cook job at a ranch in Montana over Christmas because she wanted to get away from the well meaning people who tried to get her to get over the pain of losing her 3 children and husband in a plane crash three years earlier. She thought being in a different area would help her handle the loss that was always worse at Christmas time. This was working out for her until the owner's 11 year old twins came home from boarding school unexpectedly. Harley didn't know her boss, Brock, had children and wouldn't have taken the job if she did know about them since they remind her of the ones she lost. The children were babies when Brock's wife died and he has been raising them by strict rules, one of which was that there would be no holiday celebrations, including Christmas. Harley wants to leave as soon as the children arrive but is also sad about the lack of childhood activities and, therefore, memories for the children.I liked the writing style of this author. It flowed well and kept me caught up in the story. Even though both Brock and Harley had lost their spouses, this wasn't a sad story but a positive second chance at love story that is quite believable. The character development let us know about the character's pasts in such a way that helped the reader understand them but not be saddened by their experiences. Harley was good to the ranch hands winning them over without even trying, just by doing things the way she thought they should be. I loved the twins, Molly and Mack, and what they added to this story.I loved the attraction between Harley and Brock and wondered if they would be able to get over their loss and let themselves fall in love again. 2.5 starsI liked the pace the book was going with the build up, a little wordy at times for me. When the author would be repetitive in her descriptions esp about the male lead. It was going nice till you got to the the 80% mark & it took a sharp left turn & BAM what could have made up for another 20% of the book was mushed all into 5% left of the book. The rest was teaser chapters from the book, that's what bothered me so much. The teaser chapters of the next book took up more space than the ending climax of the HEA.
