Calor Intenso: (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Ms. Jackson is back at it again, this time with the Denver Westmorelands. This clan seems to grow exponentially, each one sexier than the last. Feeling the Heat lets us into the world of Dr. Micah Westmoreland of the Center for Disease Control. He and his love interest, Dr. Kalina Daniels, had a brief hot and steamy affair two years ago while working on an epidemic is Australia. Kalina’s father, a military general, is obsessed with controlling his only daughter’s life after the death of his wife, using his military influence to shield her from the more dangerous assignments. A lie told by her father, ended the affair in Australia and separated the two for two years. Now, they are in the same room…again!Micah, being the determined Westmoreland that he is, had decided enough is enough and two years of misery has to come to an end. After a terrible romantic hurt during his college years, he vows never to let another woman close, but Kalina has found her way into his heart. Kalina, convinced her father was telling the truth, has written Micah off and won’t care less if she never saw him again. Oh, but she does.Heat flares as the two reunite after a miserable time apart. Micah is determined to clear his name and give Kalina the opportunity to get to know the real man. Kalina is determined to keep him at arm’s length despite the feelings he stirs in her simply by being near. Just when she thought she would be able to steer clear, they are assigned to work together. Unsure if this is her father’s manipulation or Micah’s, Kalina resigns herself to do her job and resist the only man she has ever loved. As the two work together to resolve a mysterious contagion in India, Micah turns up the heat in a BIG way. Smart and sassy Kalina doesn’t stand a chance against the inferno Micah presents. After two weeks of a cat and mouse game, Kalina consents to return home to Denver with Micah to discover the “truth”, and all bets are off. It’s hard to determine who is seducing whom, but tragedy strikes and both of them have to stop the game and make a choice.Ms. Jackson, a master at weaving the romantic, feel good story, adds another chapter to the growing list of Westmorelands. These stories are quick satisfying reads that keep hope alive that Mr. Perfect may very well exist. So, Feeling the Heat by Brenda Jackson gets 4 out of 5 pencils. Good job! This book was a complete dud. Kalina and Micah had an affair 2yrs ago, and all they talked about for more than half of this book was that affair, and most of the talking was done to themselves in their own heads. It really was quite boring. The term "2 yrs ago" was said so many times during this book it just became too much. Yes the reader knows 10 pages in that something went down between these two in the past, but to keep talking about it for 100+ pages of the book is just a complete waste of time. These two had little chemistry, and the two or three love scenes that they had just didn't do it for me. More of this book should have been focused on these two reconnecting and rebuilding their relationship, and less on thinking and speaking about the past, and also their careers. Thank goodness for book swaps.
