Black Butler, Vol. 2 (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

This is the kind of book you would want to read on a lazy, sunny day.The plot isn't very thick and not much happens besides small mysteries and household disasters. However, the art is really good (very pretty details) which you can just look at and appreciate for hours.I like how the author has incorporated lots of real historical events/mysteries into the story. It's a nice touch. After all, the entire thing is based in Victorian England so it's only right that the main character, Ciel Phantomhive; the Queen's Watchdog, gets assigned to deal with occurrences that caused a stir in the Victorian era.Because I have watched the anime, I know the plot takes a more interesting and sinister turn later on, so I am willing to read all the books in order that I can compare it with the show.I think those who appreciate art, enjoy slice-of-life manga or Hell Girl, Blue Exorcist and similar manga will like Black Butler too. Such a fantastic series. I seriously think that this manga and the accompanying anime is so good it is spoiling me for other series. I have finished watching all of the anime and am now working my way through the manga as I can get a hold of it. I had this one sent over from the big library here in Columbus as I can only get 2 or 3 volumes(and never in order) from my regular library. This volume is especially fun as it introduces Grell (one of my favorite characters) and utilizes the Jack the Ripper crimes as a backdrop. Beautifully illustrated and cracking good story as always. The extras are as much fun as the manga itself to read--lots of insight into the making of the manga as well as the index to explain anything that might be murky for English speaking readers. Just the best.
