And Then She Fell, Cynster Sisters Series Book # 4 (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

A pleasant read - though the romantic storyline progresses really really quickly... "The Matchbreaker" Henrietta Cynster finds her match in James Glossup.... Only to find herself at risk unwittingly. Characters are rather mesmerizing, though the "romance" is couched in such obfuscation and genteel tones I had to read it twice! Then again, it's a nice change from so many romances that call a spade a spade.... Worth reading for the beguiling characters alone ... Have to say the book started out a bit slow for me, considering our hero/heroine knew they were in love before we got 100 pages in. It just struck me as a little odd considering the amount of years they knew each other but it took one confrontation and all of a sudden, it was done. I would have loved to see more of a progression towards it.However, once the great mystery as to who was trying to hurt Henrietta came to light, that's when the book really found it's magic and I think a lot of that has to do with the Cynsters making an appearance en masse. Not that Henrietta and James are boring, it's just that they didn't have too much of a story arc despite the reason for James needing to find a wife - which that in itself became a backstory. But with the Cynsters coming together as a family - and reminding me just how many there are to love! - I got to appreciate how well they work and all the different associations they bring. It was just fun having the Cynsters plot and plan to catch the bad guy and I think it was even better that they ended up with not the entire lot but just a smaller group that ended up thwarted the bad guy!!And now little Mary gets her turn and I'm much looking forward to seeing how she and Ryder go head-to-head considering the final scene in the epiloge!

Matchmaker finds her own romance while helping others. Quite predictable.
