An Outlaw's Christmas (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

What happens when you take in a man who's been shot and you're a dingle women? well if you bing him in your reputation is lost, but it's the right thing to do. Of all the things you need and want this falls into your lap. Then you find out he's a relative or the local law man, oh boy! Hopefully the sneak who shot him is gone and you'll have a new job before they fire you.Coming in from the train he didn't get far before someone ambushed him and tried to kill him. Can he survive and survive long enough to catch the would be killer?Love Linda Lael Miller's western books and can't get enough of them. Highly recommended I picked up this book mainly because of the author since she never disappoints and it is always a great read. However, this one felt like it was too short and too rushed. The story line was lacking and the characters didn't really get a chance to be fully developed. Sawyer McKettrick is on his way to pick up a job as a marshal when he gets shot and is left for dead. It doesn't help that he is in the middle of a blizzard and there is no one around to help him out. Thankfully a school teacher nearby, one Piper St. James is out and about and sees him. She proceeds to help him out and drag him to her school house. For the next few days, with the help of the doctor and Sawyers' cousin, Clay, they are able to get Sawyer on the mend and back to being healthy.Overall, it was a fast and entertaining read, however, it was not Ms. Millers best work. Although the majority of the book was a good read, I found it unrealistic that both of the characters 'fell in love' in such a short amount of time. Less than a week? Give me a break. That being said, the remaining of the story was believable.

It came off as historically accurate. I enjoyed Piper's constant what ifs.
