All The World (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

This gorgeously illustrated book is about a family going out and enjoying the world. They go to a beach, a farmer's market, a park and more. They learn that sometimes the world gives you sunny days and other days will be rainy. The family learns to make the best of their situation by going along with what the day brings to them. The theme of this story is that nature connects us to the world and to each other. The family in the book goes through their days spending time in nature and learning how "all the world" connects to them. This would be a good book to use in the classroom to teach a lot of younger vocabulary. The connecting of words to describe what the family is doing and seeing would be helpful for students to view words in interesting ways. We could use this book in the classroom to help build a word wall. The book also features a lot of rhyming and alliteration which is a good lesson to loop in with poetry even. I think this book is about families enjoying the fruits of life. There is a young family at the sea shore enjoying the sand and the next page shows a sea side village. There is a large garden with people working in it. Some of them are; at a beehive collecting honey, harvesting corn, and picking tomatoes. The next page shows them at an open market selling their wares, with rolling hills of farmland and orchards behind it. Next there is a grandpa with his three grandchildren. Grandpa is pulling a wagon with a baby apple tree and a puppy in it. They arrive at the orchard and climb up into a huge old apple tree. The next page shows the grandfather playing with the puppy while the children play in the tree. There is a large park with a pond in the town that all the town members flock to on a beautiful day. The wind picks up and it shows the birds playing in the wind. As it starts to downpour all the towns people are running to get out of the wicked weather. They all run into a nearby café for hot soup and biscuits. It ends by showing all the families in their homes spending time together doing different things. The ending pages have beautiful quotes about the beauty we can find in the world and in each other.Review-This book makes me reflect on the beautiful life I have been so blessed with. The quotes and pictures show all the beauty the world has to offer. I LOVED this book, though I am sure everybody will not take from this book what I did. I give it a 5.Self-There are numerous things in this book that remind me of my childhood; being by the ocean, lakes, in apple trees, gardening and spending time with my Grandfather. The pictures in this book are all memories from my youth.Media-What I liked most about this book was there is no media or technology in it. It only depicts the beauty found in nature.World- This book includes all nationalities. It shows how America is a melting pot for all.
