All I Want For Christmas Is A Werewolf (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Faith Prescott is having is having the worst luck, first she loses her job, gets dumped and has her thesis stolen. On Black Friday she tries to get a computer she is needing and finds herself in the direct path of Gavin Lancaster. Gavin is a scrooge through and through, bah humbug and all of that. When he realizes Faith is his mate it is met with trepidation, his wolf is hounding him to mate but the human side doesn't want a repeat of rejection again. Could Gavin be wrong about Faith? Could she be the mate he was looking for all along?Fun quickie. I wish it had been a tad bit longer, but overall fun read. I've not read anything by Scott before, and holiday themed stories aren't my cuppa, mostly because I don't like feeling forced to read a story by a certain date so I'm still in the mood. I don't mind if Christmas occurs in a timeline in a story and is discussed, but to actually pick a book because it's theme is Christmas is new to me.Faith is in college and has just had her doctoral thesis ripped from her hands by a jerk who put his name to her work and turned it in as his own, setting her back two years and dangerously close to poverty. She's at an electronics store on Black Friday to buy a computer when she meets tall, dark and shifter Gavin, who happens to be a millionaire *yawn*. She darts away sans computer and he follows her because she's his destined mate, even though she's human. He kidnaps her, uses transportating abilities to take her to his home, where he asks her to be his mate and she, surprisingly, agrees. After a bit of third-base, he tells her to go to bed. The next chapter starts...three weeks later! They're living together while she studies his timber wolf shifter side and he tries to avoid mating her because of a previous woman who broke his heart. There are times when I'm reading a story and I think, if I were that woman and some sexy hunk of shifter man told me I was his mate, I'd strip right there and say, "I'm in!". But when it actually happens in this book, it's surprising and rushed. She's a scientist, and she just accepts the magic of what he is so easily. From one chapter to the next, three weeks has passed and they've both fallen in love with each other and she's completely come to terms with things, she's just waiting for him to make her his mate. Losing those three weeks hurts the story. It would have been better if we knew what happened between the two of them during that time, instead of going from one sentence to the next, spanning days upon days - from strangers to in love in just a few words. It makes the romance of the story hard to swallow. There were also several things that would have been better explained - the transportation, how he became a shifter, more about that part of him - and while there are two previous stories in this series that may have answered these questions, doesn't mean that a refresher in some obviously important issues wouldn't be appreciated. Gavin is touted as an alpha male, but other than a few bossy things he said, I didn't find evidence of this trait. Again, background would be helpful here.I might have been inclined to review the book as a three, if the ending chapter hadn't had such a great sex scene. Truly, the ending saved the book for me. Gavin shares his sorrows and his guilt, Faith opens her heart to him, and watch out. Super hot. If Scott writes more in this series, I'm defintely in, even though I know I'll have to take a lot on faith (pun not intended) to get to the good stuff.
