A Time To Speak (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This is a refreshing piece of Christian writing. I loved Mama B so much by the first few chapters; I wished she was a part of my family. She has hilarious inner dialogue as she is trying to steer a visiting church body in the right direction, and eventually she is able to diffuse a hard situation with God's word and get a new pastor on track. The Kindle version has a preview of the next Mama B book as well as another African-American Christian book, and although I got this first book free on Amazon, I would pay money to read the rest of the series. I picked up this book as a free Kindle read the other day and was pleasantly surprised! A very well-developed story that grabbed my attention and held it. I even read it while dining out alone and caught one of the servers watching me with a little grin on his face, only to realize I was smiling as I read. My favorite aspect of the book is the fact that it's written in dialect, which I absolutely love! I enjoyed how Mama B attempted to maintain Christ-like character but wasn't afraid to realize she's just human, albeit a human with Jesus in her heart (and in her court). Stimpson did a great job of writing realistically; it wasn't all rainbows and roses but it was typical of how the world is today with joys, struggles, death, redemption, and love. The only other author I've read who writes like that is Karen Kingsbury whose writing I thoroughly enjoy!
