A Righteous Kill (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Just meh. After starting off with a great prologue this story then went into a premise that's been done to death: apparent religious fanatic serial killer whose latest victim is rescued by emotionally unavailable H. What I liked: Her family which is led by two former arms dealers who fall in love in the midst of a deal. Their prodigious family consists of several grown children, all of whom have been named after characters from Shakespeare's plays and all of whom have totally awesome jobs such as cage fighter, FBI agent, assistant district attorney...you get the picture. What I didn't like: * H's moodiness and angst. His whining throughout about why he could fuck her but not 'be' with her got on my nerves real fast. * Too many and not very well-done red herrings.* Distasteful side story about younger priest's infatuation with heroine.* The vomiting of religious debate and rhetoric.* Not using condoms - multiple times.* Reveal of killer. Totally stupid and predictable. This is the flavor of the week: everyone is talking about it. And I get why. It's still not enough for me.I keep expecting romantic suspense to be a mystery/thriller with a strong romantic sub-plot. It never is :)This novel has all the wonderful things other reviewers will tell you about: cranky, serious FBI hero and fluffy, hippy and adorable heroine. There was a TV series with exactly this couple. But it was comedy. In a detective setting it simply sounded wrong.Serial killer on the loose (again? Can't they write without one?) and both main characters are fixated on sex and how to get in each other pants. Let's say this is not the kind of tension I was expecting. The prologue had no link with the story and her family was weirdly absent.A lovely romance, but not one I was interested in.
