A Promessa Do Tigre (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

There are so many continuity errors in this unnecessary short story.Barely a sentence passes by without Yesubai reminding the reader that her dad is evil. This story only served to make everyone look like retards and I found it insulting how Houck - yet again - ignored actual facts and just did what she wanted. The fact that she just had Deschen house widows like it was no biggie almost knocked the wind out of me and it doesn't get any less insulting when Yesubai is allowed to turn down the marriage to Ren if she wants because the Rajaram family thinks love is more important than serving their country and preventing war.And what the hell is up with that war anyway? It makes no sense to me! Lokesh is sending troops to battle Ren's army, yet at the VERY SAME TIME he plans to marry his daughter to him? It makes no sense!Houck seems to think that wars are beings of their own and not infact kept alive by people who seek to profit from it. Ren's family is only 'defending themselves' and they 'only want peace' which is why they agree to take in Yesubai. Yeah right. That's not how it works. In the real world alliances through marriage were performed with the purpose of gaining more economical support and raise a bigger army and beat your enemy. A country will ally with B country to kick C country's ass. I don't care that this is fantasy. I have read fantasy books that were expertly crafted and where political plots made sense. The romance is passionless and more often than not the story is written like a boring summery about nothing. Houck is the perfect author to read if you want to know what not to do. I have learned so much already. I appreciated Yesubai's story. I felt the story spent too much time on describing the surroundings. Don't get me wrong, the author does a beautiful job of that. I have the setting pictured vividly in my mind. But for such a short story, I wish there would have been less of it. I would have liked if it would have started with her mother's story, evolved into Yesubai's story, and had Ren and Kishan's perspective throughout, instead of "bonus chapters". I was just disappointed. On a good note: I did very much appreciate the background on Yesubai. The book did have its moments. I am looking forward to Tiger's Dream to come out.
